 Fishing Reports

August 22, 2010

Fishing has really picked up the last week or so. Bigger and Bigger Bass are being caught daily. These Bass are really not that deep for this time of year. The best Smallmouth fishing has been in 20 to 30 feet of water. Fishing near Deeper water and near current has produced the best on Big Bass. Places like Chapmans Shoal, Eagle Wings, Quebec Head and Bluff Island have been best. Crabs, minnows and worms for live bait and Senko's, colored tubes and 1/2 ounce Rattle Traps for the artificial side seem to be working best.

Pike fishing has also been real good to some people fishing along the Palisades, Fishers Landing, Oak Island and Krings Point.  Look for Pike in 15 to 25 feet on the edges of the weeds and near structure.  Try Bucktail Jigs, CD-9 Rapalas and Sinking Yo-Zuris in natural colors or minnows.

Walleyes took a while to get to the humps around Clayton and Alex Bay but as of the last few days I think the walleyes have found them. Good catches of Walleye have been taken from Carleton Island to Fishers Landing.  Try  a 5/8 or 3/4 ounce Dark colored Bucktail Jig or a 1.5 oz Jigfish tipped with half a worm. Stay in 18 to 35 feet of water near structure.

Perch fishing is the same as the past few weeks, alot of dinks and a few patches of jack perch.  Finding the big ones takes time and patience, but they are out there.

GOOD LUCK
